More information on the body of work:

The project “Inner Journey” by Marvel Harris is an ongoing autobiographical series of photographs, which portrays the personal struggles that the artist has faced with gender dysphoria, mental health, and the search for acceptance. Harris described his intimate and deeply personal self-portraits, which he took over a period of many years, as a means to communicate with people and the world around him. While he suffered from an eating disorder and depression, the artist was diagnosed with autism; during this time, he turned to the camera to manage emotions he could not adequately put into words. Documenting the process of his gender transition, Harris captures the traces of manifold physical changes and delves deep into the emotional complexity of his journey. Harris’ body of work is an important contribution to raising awareness of issues surrounding gender identities, well-being, and visibility.
