With the group exhibition “Foam Talent 2024”, we present works by 19 emerging artists from 13 countries who have been selected for the talent programme of the Fotografiemuseum Amsterdam Foam. “Foam Talent” offers them a springboard for their future career while bringing recent developments in contemporary photography to the forefront. We have been supporting the programme since 2017 as one of the main partners and acquire works by one of the artists for our collection with each edition.

The exhibition provides extraordinary insights into current issues and discourses the artists are engaging with. With an impressive grasp of the complexity of our times, they address the formative influence of background and cultural rootedness, discuss questions of belonging and identity, and weave personal and collective stories. The deconstruction of gender stereotypes, the lasting implications of colonialism and the invisible dangers of internet algorithms are also expressed in their work. Their artistic methods are as diverse as the thematic range: the artists combine traditional photography with new technologies, delve into archives, bring forgotten stories to light, and experiment with digital imagery. Their varied approaches are a re-exploration of the medium’s boundaries, providing a glimpse at future developments. This way, the Talents show how photography can be used to visualise social and cultural dynamics and invite visitors to reflect on their own position in an ever-changing world.

The Foam Talents 2024 are: Eleonora Agostini, Cristóbal Ascencio, Sander Coers, Rehab Eldalil, Xin Li, Akshay Mahajan, Thero Makepe, Marisol Mendez, Ricardo Nagaoka, Andrea Orejarena & Caleb Stein, André Ramos-Woodard, Aaryan Sinha, MAryam Touzani, Jaclyn Wright, Shwe Wutt Hmon, Cansu Yıldıran, Sheung Yiu and Amin Yousefi.

The exhibition is a collaboration with the Fotografiemuseum Amsterdam Foam and was jointly curated. "Foam Talent 2024" is complemented by an extensive digital presentation that comprises all artistic positions and offers further information in form of texts, podcasts and videos.
