The Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation Prize is one of the most prestigious international awards for contemporary photography. It serves as an important barometer for the development of the medium by showcasing and honouring outstanding, innovative and critical works that demonstrate the relevance of photography as a cultural force.
In collaboration with the Photographers’ Gallery in London, we award the Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation Prize annually to a contemporary photographic artist who has made a significant contribution to photography in Europe through an exhibition or publication over the past twelve months. Launched in 1996 by the The Photographers’ Gallery, the prize has been awarded jointly since 2005. It is now endowed with £30,000.
Each year, a group of over 100 international photography experts nominates what they consider to be the most significant exhibition projects or publications from the previous year. An international jury, which changes annually, selects four finalists from these nominations. The finalists’ projects are showcased in an exhibition at the Photographers’ Gallery and in the accompanying catalogue. Each May, the winner is selected and honoured at a further meeting at the Photographers’ Gallery in London.
